Instead, you get a version of Eric Draven who embarks on a relentless killing spree, eliminating people who had no involvement in the murder of him and Shell.
Imagine this a man working a second job to support his family, just living his life, when suddenly Draven shows up and kills him. What’s the point of that? Does this man now get to return as a Specter of Vengeance too? And to top it off, there’s a scene where Draven throws severed heads into a crowd of opera goers. These people? Again, they had nothing to do with his tragedy.
There’s no Sarah character here, no Ernie Hudson type to bring depth to the story. It’s as if the filmmakers never truly engaged with The Crow they only heard about it and slapped the name on a film that betrays everything the story was meant to represent.
And speaking of betrayal, the crow itself in this movie. What is it? What role does it play? In the original story, the crow was a symbol, a guide. In this version, it’s an empty afterthought. Truthfully, it has less character than a simple object like a glass of scotch.
